Glenarm Estate
Glenarm Estate has a heritage that goes back for hundreds of years. The Estate contains a 4 mile long open channel that was constructed in the 1800's to transport logs from the forest on the mountain side down to the sawmill in the village of Glenarm.
As part of the hydro project, 2,300 metres of the original open channel was reconstructed through the forest. A new weir incorporating a coanda screen was constructed at the location of the original weir. A second intake was constructed at the downstream end of the reconstructed open channel for the final downhill section via buried pipe to the turbine.
Having used a competitor to obtain planning permission, Glenarm Estate invited HydroNI to prepare construction standard drawings, project manage the construction of the project, and installation & commission of all equipment.
